TOP 10 FOODS THAT I USE TO HELP ME BOOST METABOLISM

We love our carbs, processed foods, and sugar don’t we?

As a result, weight gain and other metabolic disorders are prominent and lead to diseases such as heart disease. This style of eating throws off our ability to have stable blood sugar levels which drives up inflammation, throws off hormones, and reduces our health and vitality.

Taking steps to balance blood sugar is one of the first things I focus on when working with my clients to help them lose weight.

This strategy alone has a tremendous impact on overall health and certain foods are fantastic for this purpose.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 foods that I’ve incorporated into my life that initially helped me lose weight but now maintain a healthy weight and high energy levels.

Coconut
Coconut is an excellent source of healthy fats, particularly medium chain trriglycerides. MCTs are types of fat that your body easily converts into a source of energy called ketones. When you burn ketones for energy instead of sugar, you naturally stabilize blood sugar and improve fat burning. I personally incorporate coconut flour, unsweetened flakes and coconut milk

Try: My Grain Free Coconut Porridge

MCT Oil
MCTs are types of fat that your body easily converts into a source of energy called ketones. When you burn ketones for energy instead of sugar, you naturally stabilize blood sugar and improve fat burning. I personally use Bulletproof’s Brain Octane oil as it is more superior to regular MCT oil.  I personally incorporate it into coffees, matchas and salad dressings

Try: My Perfect Dairy Free Matcha

Collagen
Collagen is typically produced in the body but it declines as we get older. We know it to be great for hair, skin and nails but (if from grass-fed sources) it can be a great source of protein and fat.

Try: adding it to coffees, tea, water, elixirs, baked goods, soups, FAT BOMBS.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon improves insulin sensitivity and allows glucose to be transported from the blood and into the cells much more efficiently. This effect reduces the need for as much insulin to be released and creates a more stable rise and fall in blood sugar that is not as detrimental to health as the rapid rise and fall found with high-sugar diets or those with diabetes. Cinnamon can simply be added to your morning coffee or sugar free deserts.

Try: My Keto Almond Butter Coco Whip

Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is an inexpensive way of balancing blood sugar that can be used in many ways. It contains acetic acid which helps to control fluctuations in blood sugar when combined with meals. Using apple cider vinegar may improve fat burning, improve digestion, and reduce carbohydrate cravings.

Try: adding a teaspoon to room one large glass of temperature filtered water first thing in the morning or a shot before meals.

Olives and Olive Oil
Olives and olive oil are an underestimated source of antioxidants that have been shown to protect the body from the damaging effects of diabetes such as neuropathy and heart disease.

Grass Fed Butter
Grass Fed Butter provides many fat soluble nutrients and healthy fats. It also contains powerful metabolism boosting nutrients, namely conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). CLA is a long-chain fatty acid that is much more concentrated in grass-fed dairy products. In research, CLA has been found to improve insulin sensitivity and balance blood sugar.

Try: it in a bulletproof coffee or just simply cook with it.

Pasture Raised Eggs
Eggs from pasture-raised chickens are one of the most complete nutrient-dense foods you can eat. Additionally, eggs are a low-carb food so they have minimal impact on blood sugar. They, along with grass fed butter contain the powerful nutrient called “CLA” as noted above.

Avocados
They are loaded with minerals, fiber, and healthy fats that all help to stabilize blood sugar levels. Avocados are also a significant source of B vitamins which are important for energy production.

Grass Fed Meats
Similar to pasture raised eggs, grass-fed meats are typically better sources of fat, protein, amino-acids and CLA (as noted above).

You don’t need expensive “superfoods” to support y You don’t need expensive “superfoods” to support your health. These are five simple foods I eat almost every day because they’re backed by science and easy to incorporate into real life.

🫐 Blueberries – rich in anthocyanins that support brain health and help combat oxidative stress.

🍋 Lemons – a great source of vitamin C, which is essential for collagen production and immune function.

🌾 Psyllium husk – one of the most evidence-based fibres for supporting gut health, healthy cholesterol levels, and blood sugar balance.

🥛 Fermented foods – help nourish the gut microbiome and have been shown to increase microbial diversity while reducing inflammatory markers.

🥒 Cucumbers (and other high-water, low-calorie foods) – support hydration, add volume to meals, and can help increase fullness.

Small, consistent habits often outperform complicated nutrition plans.

Save this post for your next grocery shop and let me know—which of these do you already eat every day?

I’d scroll through Instagram seeing women with str I’d scroll through Instagram seeing women with strong, sculpted physiques & at the same time, be inspired & frustrated…

Why not me?

And I realized:
I didn’t actually want the process. I wanted the result.

But I wasn’t willing to look honestly at what the process required.

The years of progressive strength training.
Learning how to actually fuel my body instead of guessing.
Building muscle slowly before it ever shows up visually.
Showing up.
Unlearning years of quick-fix thinking.

There’s a line from Atomic Habits that stops you in your tracks:

“To crave the result but not the process is to guarantee disappointment.”

We want the strong, lean, defined body, but don’t want to lift with intention & patience for years to build & see it.

High-performing women understand effort in every other area of life.

But health doesn’t respond to intensity.
It responds to consistency.

If you want a result that most people don’t have, you have fundamentally change who you are.

Be honest… are you chasing the result or committed to the process right now?

One of the biggest changes I’ve made recently? Swa One of the biggest changes I’ve made recently?
Swapping some of my long, steady-state cardio sessions for Norwegian 4x4 intervals.

The workout is simple:
➡️ 4 minutes hard effort
➡️ 3 minutes recovery
➡️ Repeat 4 times

Why I love it:
✔️ Improves VO₂ max (one of the strongest predictors of longevity and cardiovascular health)
✔️ Improves aerobic fitness and endurance
✔️ Time efficient — done in about 40 minutes
✔️ Helps support heart health and healthy aging
✔️ Leaves more time for strength training and recovery

A 2024 study found that the Norwegian 4x4 protocol significantly improved VO₂ max compared to moderate-intensity training.

At 47, I’m less interested in burning calories & more interested in building a stronger body, better fitness & long-term health.

Have you tried Norwegian 4x4s?

This week’s midlife glow-up favourites ✨ And hone This week’s midlife glow-up favourites ✨

And honestly? Most of them start with getting enough protein.

One of the biggest game changers for my energy, body composition, cravings, and strength has been prioritizing a solid protein hit first thing in the morning — and making sure my snacks support my goals too.

And the 5th favourite? A good exfoliator 👏

Because glowing skin in midlife is both internal and external.

Protein + skincare + consistency = the real glow-up.

Comment “glow” if you want my fav exfoliators 💛
